 We are the largest
privately-owned independent
producers of vegetable seed in South Africa, operating on our farms in
the
Oudtshoorn and Uniondale districts in the Klein Karoo region. J.W. Seeds is
fully family-owned and formerly traded as Johan van der Westhuizen &
Sons.Since Johan
van der Westhuizen Sr. started producing seed in 1954 on the Rooirivier
("Red River") farm, we have
expanded our business with the addition of several farms.
The founder's sons joined the company and all
three are actively
involved in every aspect of seed production, from sowing
and transplanting to harvesting and marketing.
The seed is cleaned and packed under
optimal conditions on the Rooirivier farm. Over the years, we have evolved
as a leading agricultural concern - from a regional market leader to a
significant exporter to Europe and the Far East. Primarily seed production
is our
core business, but J.W. Seeds is committed to growth, innovation and superior
customer service.

We supply the local market in the
Western Cape with large quantities of onion seed. The bulbs grown from this
seed are also exported to Europe. We also supply
several wholesalers and retailers with various types of seed:
We have been actively involved in
the export market for more than 15 years and currently
export large quantities to customers in North and South America, Europe, South
and East Asia, and Africa. Our location, close to
the Southern tip of Africa, offers Northern Hemisphere seed companies
counter-season seed production, which extends their crops during any year.
The distinct quality of our seed is well known and our satisfied
customers worldwide are proof of the excellent service and products we
offer. With almost 50 years of production experience, our family business is
recognized as a valuable partner and supplier. The bulk of our production is
exclusive and supplied on a contractual basis, but we also render a
wholesale service.
